  • Ignite Paris - First edition, first impressions
  • After barcamps, here comes Ignites… Philippe Jeudy is surely building a bridge between Paris and San Francisco, and he’s doing this both way : this Californian spirit in Paris sure is refreshing. Ignite is a pretty simple idea: you can talk about whatever you want, as long as it takes 5 minutes sharp, using 20 […]

  • Up to Berlin
  •
Sounds weird, but I’ve never been to Germany before, and for the very first time in my life, I’ll be heading toward Berlin within a few days.
Should be quite cool, Mekameta and myself will be meeting with some friends, Pierre and Janetti, and we (at least I) will be at the Web2expo (and probably in […]

  • Information overload and topic monitoring
  •
    Ongoing searches, ongoing problems…
Today, monitoring a topic on the internet requires either a great amount of time or a great amount of technical skills. In both case, you will also need a strong editorial discipline.
Unless your company has acquired expensive Business Intelligence tools, you have to regularly perform searches over the internet, collect information streams from […]

  • Anybody looking for some insights about the current ‘war on terror’ should definitely have a look at this movie. Beside being a pretty good Hollywook blockbuster, this ‘based on a true story’ screenplay gives a detailled explanation on how and when Al Qaida was funded and created and how funds dramaticaly dropped once the CIA […]

A few days ago, Arnold Schwarzenegger announced a massive strategy to massively introduce electric cars in California, smart move, but obviously, he’s just doing something totally inevitable. By doing this now instead of waiting a few more years, he is probably going to seed some very innovative startups - quite easy to do for a […]

VISA is launching their social network… on Facebook

I’ve been waiting for such thing since Fortis launched their own social network (at the time, Facebook wasn’t that big, and MySpace wasn’t an option), but now, Facebook is definitely the place to experiment with social media for big financial companies…

VISA is launching their own network, within the Facebook network, of course, looks like it’s aimed at business networking… why not… Can’t really tell you more righ now, because they seem to be overcrowded by success (or, at least, curiosity), but this could be the start of something big in this sector…

One of the main problem for banks (especialy here in France) is to attract new customer. Since they tend to stay for a very long time in the same bank (if not for life), getting youngsters is a top priority, and therefore, Facebook is the place to be.

Ok, VISA’s not a bank, but you can clearly see where I’m going right now. I’ve been working for the banking and financial industry for 15 years now, and evangelising about social media for the past five years, I even made a blog for Egg plc, when they were still in France, but since then… Nada… Nothing…

Today’s a great day, VISA has dust off a pretty web 1.0 industry, I guess MasterCard is going to do something now, and banks should follow, if they want to avoid a greedy go-between.

More on this in a later post (when VISA’s facebook application will start working again.
